City of New Bedford Solid Waste Transfer Station

General information

New Bedford has a comprehensive recycling and solid waste program with weekly collection of trash, recycling, yard waste (April-December) and bulky items (by appointment). ABC Disposal provides these services as the City's contracted hauler.

The City has an automated collection program for trash and single stream recycling. Residents and small businesses use special wheeled carts – blue lid/blue body for trash and orange lid/blue body for recycling. Call the City’s Department of Facilities and Fleet Management at (508) 961-3008 for more information about the wheeled carts.

Bulky items are collected at the curb by appointment. Bulky items include mattresses, boxsprings, couches, wooden furniture, computer monitors, televisions, refrigerators, and more. Call ABC Disposal for an appointment at (508) 999-2619.

New Bedford residents also may participate in special drop-off events that are held in the spring and the fall. These include Household Hazardous Waste Day, Tire Recycling Day, Sharps Drop-off Day (for needles, lancets and syringes), National Drug Take-Back Day, and Paper Shredding Day.

We work for the Greater New Bedford Regional Refuse Management District. The District operates the Crapo Hill Landfill where the trash from New Bedford residents and small businesses is disposed as well as trash from Dartmouth residents.
