Who Are We

The AIMS Center for Math and Science Education at Fresno Pacific University is dedicated to understanding the existing research on how children “come to know” their mathematical and scientific knowledge; to use what we learn from research to inspire teachers to deeply thoughtfully consider how to change their own classroom practice – passionate, reflective teachers who will take their students’ thinking seriously; and to broadly share that which is learned with the educational community.

What We Do

- Evaluate existing research to identify outcomes that we believe could change the learning experiences of students in Central San Joaquin Valley classrooms

- Translate research into practice in the classroom

- Provide ongoing professional learning opportunities to educators and on-site instruction to academic coaches toward the utilization of research outcomes in the classroom

Why We Do What We Do

A wealth of research exists that involves studying the subject of “How Kids Come to Learn”, but only a small portion of that research has been implemented in practical ways. We want to see more of that research made applicable for teachers and the classroom setting.
