Formerly Charlotte’s Heart, Charlotte’s Soul was birthed from a great deal of spiritual kneading, the death of a dream and the progression of vision.
Through excruciating emotional trials, I have moved beyond my broken heart and discovered the steadfast strength flowing from my soul.
I have begun recovery from trauma as I explore a version of myself that is free of the worlds ‘musts’ and closer to God’s design.
My passion remains to illustrate the value of each soul and inspire others to move into a deeper level of thriving. Through speaking, workshops, books, blogs and coaching, I am on a mission to nourish souls with the gifts I have received.
I fled my 23-year marriage after decades of pouring into something that I later discovered in no way resembled what I believed it to be. The direction of my life has taken roads which I never wanted nor expected, but God has me firmly in His grip.
God’s provision existed even when I had to make unpopular decisions. It became tangible when I stepped out in faith, trusting only Him. My actions did not line up with what I thought I wanted, with what I formerly believed God wanted, and it certainly was not in line with the urging of man and the church.
My ex-husband and I brought four incredible sons into the world. I dedicated my life to raising them as best I knew how. I served on church leadership and had been a tried and true homemaker ever since I graduated college. Unfortunately, like many others, the reality of my former life was cloaked under hope and denial. Stepping out of my marriage felt like a massive failure, drowning in a sea of unknowns. It included the judgment and shunning from my church and many believers. I faced rejection from some of my children who are in their search for truth.
Leaving the toxicity of my former marriage was the first step towards my emotional health. The terrifying journey out of denial has been an altogether new dimension of courage.
Life hasn’t been all bad. In fact, something miraculous happened along the way. Several months after I fled my home I had a divine encounter with the man I would later marry.
Nothing can stop God's plan for your life!A book signing for Heartbeats for Cancer, in Frederick, Maryland turned out to be a day I’ll never forget. Bryan and I have a mutual friend, who also has faced divorce inspite of his dynamic walk with God. He sent Bryan to say hi, and the rest is history.
Bryan has his story of personal devastation after a 23-year marriage. After years of serving his church family, he too faced rejection from some church leadership and those he had once been considered family. His journey and that of many others parallel my own. We are intent to bring light to the darkness, in hopes of some reformation on how the church deals with domestic emotional abuse. Bryan has four children, the same ages as mine. My immediate attraction was due to Bryan’s walk with God and it’s integration into the DNA of his vibrant life, and well he thought I was hot.
In a very short period, Bryan and I knew God had not answered our prayers for our previous marriages because His plan was much greater. We both know marriage is way more than the feelings we have for each other. The foundation of our relationship is our Lord and Savior Jesus, individually and as a couple. We heard the calling in our life to marry and begin ministry together and separately.
It has been a crazy season for me, with a contentious divorce, a new marriage, a move to Frederick from Annapolis and parenting our eight children. Through all the pain I have endured, God has blessed me beyond anything I could ask or imagine, and He sent me a man who loves Him most of all, adores me and desires to be a source of structure for the creative gifts God has given me.
Bryan and I are committed to spending a lifetime serving God and our family.
